bindeez beads toy == date rape drug?

Australia banned the popular Bindeez beads toy made in China. When the beads are swallowed by kids, it can be fatal with same effects as date rape drugs. The problem is traced down to that dangerous chemical 1,4-butanediol replaced the safe chemical 1,5-pentanediol in the manufacturing process. Why? I bet the reason is one is much cheaper than another.

What a shame. Made in China.
